A TWO WEEK RESIDENCY IN LAPUA, FINLAND, FOCUSED ON FIELD RECORDING.

The Vanha Paukka Artist Residency aims to provide artists with an opportunity to concentrate on their work and develop themselves as an artist. The residency takes place at the Vanha Paukku Cultural Centre, which provides an opportunity to collaborate with local artists, professionals and buildings on within the premises.
The center is located next to the Lapuanjoki river, and is developed from old factory buildings. The area includes galleries and museums, the town library, shops and offices as well as a cafeteria, a movie theatre, the Music Institute, the Adult Education Centre and the Lyijylanka – creative community. During the summer, there is also a river boat that takes its passengers on a cruise through the history and the surroundings of the area. The cultural center was established in 1997 and the artist residency program was introduced in 2015.
During the residency, I spent two weeks recording in various locations including Lapua, Kyrkosjarvi, Seinajoki, Koli, Helsinki and Tampere.  Microphones used were the Sennheiser Ambeo, DPA 4060's and JrF hydrophones. These recordings will be used to create the final piece for my PhD in Electroacoustic Composition at The University of Birmingham.
